the birds … and worry

February 28, 2010

scrubjay in our backyard - we love these!

several times in the past few months, i’ve been blessed at just the right time, by seeing …  a bird.

i would be grappling with worry; struggling in my mind and spirt … and then i’d look up and see a beautiful bird, soaring through the sky.

“Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or drink; or about your body, what you will wear. Is not life more important than clothes? Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable than they? Who of you by worrying, can add a single hour to his life? … But seek first His kingdom and His righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well.” (Matthew 6:25-27; 33)

the nature of the worry varies for me; it can be financial, health-related, etc. and yet, what i know for sure is that i have a choice in that moment, to believe (and bless Him with my faith) or to try and “work it out” in my mind.

and as i’ve believed and rested in His loving provision, He has so faithfully and specifically provided. i know that He knows every detail of what i am facing; that He has a love for me that i can hardly understand; that His grace and mercy has been overwhelming at times.

“And my God will meet all your needs according to His glorious riches in Christ Jesus.” (Philippians 4:19)

so let me choose belief!

amazingly and providentially, we've been studying the birds that visit our backyard. this is the spotted towhee. =)

By commenting on my blog, you drew me to yours at exactly the moment I needed to hear those specific words spoken of worry and of leaning in and trusting in God. God’s timing is impeccable, don’t you think? Thank you.
