our son

we finally decided on his name:

Josiah Michael Green!

i am smiling as i sit here writing this. i love his name so much! hubby has been referring to him as josiah for weeks, maybe even months … and i’ve remained on the fence (between josiah and elijah). last night, maddie said, “c’mon, let’s just decide!!” we smiled and talked about it some more.  and then i announced, “it’s josiah” to the smiling faces of my hubby and daughter. =)

there are a few reasons why this name is THE name for our little man…

:: it means, “the LORD heals” – amen!!!

::  josiah reigned as a king in jerusalem, beginning at the age of 8. about him, scripture says, “he did what was right in the eyes of the LORD and walked in all the ways of his father david, not turning aside to the right or to the left” (2kings 22:2); and, “neither before nor after josiah was there a king like him who turned to the LORD as he did – with all his heart and with all his soul and with all his strength, in accordance with all the Law of Moses” (2kings 23:25).

during his reign, the Book of the Law was found in the temple; immediately upon reading the words of the LORD, josiah unwaveringly made dramatic changes throughout the land, to obey everything the LORD had called His people to do. he took seriously being obedient to the Law. he left no stone unturned, so to speak.  and he reinstituted the celebration of the passover.  about him, the LORD said, “because your heart was responsive and you humbled yourself before the LORD when you heard what i have spoken against this place and its people, that they would become accursed and laid waste, and because you tore your robes and wept in my presence, i have heard you, declares the LORD” (2kings 22:19). how incredible is that?!

:: my hubby has long respected and cherished the testimony of the life of josiah hensen, an ex-slave who was an unsung hero and financier of the underground railroad. josiah was an instrument of God that manifested solely through his obedience in the most adverse conditions imaginable (these are hubby’s words – i asked him to describe him in a couple sentences!)

we are so eager to meet you, sweet josiah!!

Yay!! I love it. Any one of those reasons is good enough in it’s own. But all together, who can deny? I love that the Lord names our children. One day you will see the Lord use him in a way that shows this name was part of the design all along. Sounds mysterious now, but it’s true!! I can’t wait to meet him. 🙂
