i love a little ray of sunshine in the dark winter months.

this one is particularly special because the jar holding the bloom comes with a beautiful story.

{and how pretty is the jar anyway?! love it.}

a few weeks ago while visiting my grandparents, my beloved grammy shared that she had a few bulbs to send home with me (generosity embodied, always). and then she added that i could pick any of her jars to put my bulbs in … which one did i want? my eyes gravitated to the stunning turquoise jar immediately. this one, grammy? of course, she answered.

and then she shared the story behind the jar:  it was given to her by her aunt many years ago. her aunt (her mother’s sister) had a farm and lived in the ‘country’, a favorite place for my grammy and her brothers to visit in the summer (being city kids from portland). when my grandparents were married and living in grants pass, this dear aunt came to visit, bringing with her a jar of homemade pickles.

they were in this jar. so special! thanks, precious grammy.

  1. Beautiful jar!

    Also, I have no idea how to grow bulbs inside during the winter, but I want to learn!

      mere, the bulbs were so simple. my grandma had them – just regular old bulbs – and she put some rocks (any style) on the bottom of the jars. she suggested putting enough water in the bottom of the jars to just come up to the upper part of the rocks – enough water for the roots to access. our roots went crazy! the stems grew visibly each day. it’s so cool to watch!

    Beautiful story, jar, and bloom 🙂
